In Value Programs or higher, you can use your ShopCity.com Publishing suite to send press releases to local media.

  1. In the Publish tab of your business, click the Press Releases link to find your Press Release history, and the Create Press Release button to start a new release.

  2. The Date field defaults to the current date, but you can change the date by pressing the calendar icon next to it and selecting another date. You can suppress the date on the release itself by clicking the box marked “Hide the date on the main release page.”

  3. Give your press release a headline (think of how newspaper headlines read: use the present tense to state the subject, such as “Anytown Toys announces grand opening”) in the Title field.

  4. Write your press release in the Press Release Content field.

  5. Experiment with choosing different type styles from the style drop menu (it defaults to Normal) or the Font menu by highlighting text and then choosing from the menu. But remember, good publishing rules apply - too many fonts and styles make a publication look amateurish. Choose a headline style and a body text style and stick to them for a professional look.

  6. If you have already written an article in another application, you can copy it to your clipboard and use the paste tools in the toolbar…

The leftmost is a simple paste, attempting to keep any formatting from a variety of applications. The center button with the “T” converts formatted text to plain text, removing the formatting, and the right button with the “W” is best for maintaining formatting created in Microsoft Word. Click the appropriate button and paste using CTRL-V (Windows) or CMD-V (Mac) into the dialog box that opens. Then choose the OK button in the dialog box to add the copied content to your page and return to the page editing window.

  1. You can add photos using the Camera icon in the toolbar and insert a video using the Play button next to the camera icon, or embed a video player in the Source field (see related articles linked in this paragraph).

  2. Enter the name of the person with whom you would like media to inquire in the Contact Person field.

  3. You can click the See who will receive your release button for a list of local media included in distribution. If you would like to add a media outlet, contact your City Manager or Sales Representative.

  4. The Preview button shows you how the release will look in the published email. The Save Changes button allows you to save and return to the Press Release later. Publish will save and send your Press Release to the media distribution list. Cancel returns you to the Press Release list without saving your changes.

In the Press Release list, you can choose from four options next to each release in your history:

  • The magnifying glass icon shows you a preview of how the Press Release will appear in an email

  • The green swish icon opens a new Press Release using the selected Press Release as a template, should you want to make a new release with only minor edits to an older one

  • The pencil icon opens the Press Release for editing or to publish and send the release

  • The red “x” icon (followed by Yes in the confirmation dialog that opens) deletes the Press Release
