To begin adding Marketplace Items to your Catalog, click the Catalog shortcut in the Overview panel of your Dashboard, then the New button at the bottom of your recent items list. Or choose Sell Online from the navigation bar anywhere in your Business Control Panel and click the Add New Item link. Either of these actions will open a new page for building/editing your item. From top to bottom of the window:
Add photos by clicking the camera icons and selecting images from your computer
You can usually save images from suppliers’ websites to your computer, or take a picture of the product in your store. You may use stock images if you have the publishing rights
If you upload more than one image to the gallery (up to six), you can select which image will be the thumbnail by clicking the dot under the image
Add your title in the Product/Service Name or Description field. Choose words that clearly describe the item or would be the words used by searchers. This is the name of the item - avoid descriptive titles such as “Last Chance,” “Here for summer” etc. and prefer labels such as “Hand-made Chair,” “Nike Cross-Trainers,” “Hot Stone Massage”
Describe the item in detail in the What It Is, What It Does… field. You may copy and paste the manufacturer’s description from your supplier’s website, write a detailed description yourself, or list specifications and features. If you are copying from your supplier, it’s a good idea to add information at the beginning that is new and unique, such as why you chose to stock this item, your personal experience with the item, or what your customers have told you about it.
You can format your text using the formatting tools in the editing toolbar of the field
You can insert additional photos using the camera icon button in the editing toolbar
You can insert a video in the item by using the play icon (▶) in the editing toolbar or embed a video player for an even better user experience
You can edit or insert HTML page instructions by clicking the Source button in the top left corner of the editing toolbar
The Promo Blast field creates a line of red text under the thumbnail in your catalog. Use this field for selling (eg “Limited time offer”) or for additional keywords (eg “Father’s Day Gift Idea”)
You must select a Shopcity.com Category from the drop menu. Scroll through the categories to choose a group that most closely describes where your item belongs
Select the Categories in Your Store under which you’d like the item to appear. Think of these as the aisles of your store, except that you can cross-reference them so an item can appear in as many categories as appropriate. Learn to Add/Edit Store Categories
Product Options allow the user to select size, colour or other variables you offer if the item is for sale online.
Use the Option field for the type of choice, such as Size or Colour. Each time you create an Option, a new field opens up below in case you would like to create another Option
Use the Choice field to enumerate choices within the Option. For example, under the Option “Size,” you might provide the Choices “Small” and “Large”
Use the Price Adjustment field to show the difference between the advertised base price (below) and this selection. For example, you might make the base price refer to the adult size at $50 but the youth size is $45 and the plus size is $55. In the Price Adjustment field next to the “Youth” choice, type: -5.00. In the Price Adjustment field next to the “Plus” choice, type: 5.00.
The Ad Price group controls all the base pricing.
Select “Asking Price (Inquire)” if you will not be selling the item online. You can type a price or a range and it will not create an “Add to Cart” button; the page will show an “Email Inquiry” contact form and a “Send Inquiry” button whether you add a price or not
The Item URL field allows you to add the address of an item on another website where you already sell online. You can insert the address of a specific item or a page of items, as you prefer. This will create a “Buy Now” button on your item that links to the shopping page you designated
Select “Fixed Price/Add to Cart” if you will be selling the item online. This option is available once you add your Paypal email in Store Settings. Insert the actual price or base price before option adjustments in the Market Price field. If the item goes on special, you can click the On Sale box and insert the sale price, and the regular and sale price will show
Set Shipping & Delivery charges only if you are selling online. Choose the appropriate selection from the drop menu. If you choose one that includes delivery, you can enter the price of delivery for each of Local, National and International shipping. If you have set shipping rules in the Store Settings, they will override individual item shipping rules and apply to all items
Once you’ve populated your catalog, you can return to edit any item and add Suggested Items. Click the Suggested Items button and choose up to five items from your catalog to be displayed in the “May We Suggest” tab of your item
Choose the appropriate selection from the Availability menu. If you are not selling online, we suggest always leaving this set to “In-Stock”
Assign the tax, or create your tax settings in Store Settings
You can click the This Ad Expires box and select a date on the calendar for the item to disappear if it is temporary
If you would like to send the item to your business Facebook page, check the Facebook box; When you save the item, you will get a chance to add your comments and choose your Facebook page
Save the item by choosing Add This Item or save and open a new blank item by choosing Add Another Item.
